In September 2006, Mubadala signed an agreement with pioneering American healthcare institution, Cleve-land Clinic, to establish and operate a preeminent hospital in Abu Dhabi. The 360-bed multi-specialty hos-pital, known as Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD), will be a unique and unparalleled extension of the Cleveland Clinic model. CCAD is due to open in the 1st quarter of 2011 with the objective of bringing world-class healthcare to the region.

CCAD is one of a number of initiatives led by Mubadala Healthcare, the division of Mubadala dedicated to the creation of a robust private healthcare infrastructure for Abu Dhabi. The hospital is a vital part of Muba-dala Healthcare’s strategy to build an integrated healthcare delivery network.
The network includes general and multi-specialty hospitals, centres of excellence, clinical support services and primary care/GP clinics that will be linked by state-of-the-art IT systems and medical technologies to provide a seamless and high quality patient experience. In its search for a partner to develop and operate the facility, Mubadala screened the top institutions in the international medical community before selecting Cleveland Clinic. The expertise from one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the United States, along with comprehensive diagnostic facilities and treatments, will ensure that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi provides the best in medical care for the UAE and the region.

CCAD will offer advanced tertiary/quaternary medical services in a comprehensive range of specialties and subspecialties. An integrated hospital and clinical practice model will serve local and international patients in an environment combining ’seven star’ amenities and service standards with the highest quality medical care and superior patient outcomes. The hospital is being designed to take advantage of the latest technologies in surgery, imaging, telemedicine and electronic medical records to ensure treatment and outcomes on a par with the world’s top medical institutions.

Like its counterpart in the United States, CCAD will be a physician-led medical facility served by world-class, North American board certified physicians. The new hospital will provide a number of career oppor-tunities, and medical professionals will receive ongoing medical training directly from Cleveland Clinic.
